Reunion Weekend 2017
Reunion 2017 saw hundreds of alumni return to the MCV Campus for a weekend's worth of activities, April 7-9.
On hand to welcome them back to campus was Peter F. Buckley, M.D., the newly appointed dean of the School of Medicine.
Alumni celebrated the anniversary of their medical school graduation by reconnecting with classmates and getting a first-hand look at how campus has changed, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the new McGlothlin Medical Education Center. In addition to class parties all over town, they also explored the simulation center and earned CME at the annual Alumni Update Course.
- Alumni returned from all corners of the U.S. and 26 states this year.
- A highlight of the weekend was Mini Medical School. Alumni heard from Dean Peter Buckley, M.D., as well as Michelle Whitehurst-Cook, M’79, H’83, associate dean of admissions; Chris Woleben, M’97, H’01, associate dean for student affairs; and award-winning Professor of Medicine Diane Biskobing, M.D., who described how team-based learning and technology has changed the curriculum. Alumni also learned what it’s like to apply for medical school today and how the school prepares students for the Match process. During their tour of the Center for Human Simulation and Patient Safety they talked with students about standardized patients and simulation scenarios.
- Alumni also participated in the Class Giving program, making gifts to the Annual Fund and endowed class scholarships. The classes’ generosity has a direct impact on students -- both today and in the future -- providing them with scholarship support and by exemplifying the tradition of alumni engagement with the MCV Campus.
