Dear colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to commend the tremendous achievements of our fourth-year medical students. Earlier this month, the Class of 2022 and their families gathered at the Hippodrome Theater to celebrate Match Day, the annual rite of passage when our students learn their residency destinations.
The Class of 2022 performed exceptionally well in this year’s match. Prior to the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP), 95% of our graduating students matched into a PGY-1 position, above the national average of 93.9%. After SOAP, 99.5% of our students matched into a PGY-1 position. Of those students, 31 will remain at VCU for their training.
We offer our sincere congratulations to this extraordinary class, which has demonstrated adaptability and resiliency as they persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic while completing their medical school training. This will serve them well as they transition to their residency training, and we remain grateful for their dedication to patient care during these unprecedented times.
After their tremendous accomplishments at the School of Medicine, we are confident that the Class of 2022 will go on to even greater achievements in their chosen fields. We celebrate, appreciate and offer our ongoing support for these outstanding students as they prepare for the next step of their careers as physicians. We look forward to welcoming our new class of residents this summer!
With pride and gratitude,
