Reunion 2015 saw hundreds of alumni return to the MCV Campus for a weekend’s worth of activities, April 17-19.

This year, more than 200 alumni celebrated the anniversary of their medical school graduation by reconnecting with classmates and getting a first-hand look at how campus has changed, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the new McGlothlin Medical Education Center.

This year:

  • The accomplishments of two distinguished alumni were celebrated during Reunion Weekend: The Outstanding Medical Alumnus Award went to David Lanning, M’95, PhD’00, H’02, and Pete Sowers, M’70, was recognized with the Caravati Service Award.
  • A highlight of the weekend was the Dean’s Breakfast. Jerry Strauss, M.D., Ph.D., provided an update on the latest news from the school and fielded wide-ranging questions from alumni. Afterward, a half dozen students led alumni on campus tours that included the new McGlothlin Medical Education Center. The most common comment? “It made us want to go back to medical school… well, almost!”
  • A pair of alumni arrived on campus early to speak to current students. Margaret “Kenny” Offermann, M’80, PhD’81, talked with students enrolled in the M.D.-Ph.D. program about opportunities in biomedical research and health care. Joe Sherman, M’85, H’88, spoke with the M4 students about avoiding burnout and maintaining a passion for the profession.
  • Alumni raised more than $1.7 million through the Class Giving program! With gifts supporting the Annual Fund and the 1838 Campaign, these classes have a direct impact on students – both today and in the future – providing them with scholarship support and by exemplifying the tradition of alumni engagement with the MCV Campus.
