Dear colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to commend the tremendous achievements of our fourth-year medical students. Last week, the Class of 2023 and their families gathered at the Hippodrome Theater to celebrate Match Day, the annual rite of passage when our students learn their residency destinations.

The Class of 2023 performed exceptionally well in this year’s match. Prior to the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP), 93.2% of our graduating students matched into a PGY-1 position, close to the national average of 93.7%. After the SOAP, 100% of our students participating in the NRMP® matched into a PGY-1 position. All of our graduates will be pursuing a training opportunity in July, and including results from the early matches, our overall match rate is at 99%. In July, we will welcome close to 240 new residents to our health system.

We offer our sincere congratulations to this amazing class, which has demonstrated adaptability and resiliency as they persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic while completing their medical school training. This will serve them well as they transition to their residency training and beyond. After their tremendous accomplishments at the School of Medicine, we are confident that the Class of 2023 will go on to even greater achievements in their chosen fields.

We celebrate, appreciate and offer our ongoing support for these outstanding students as they prepare for the next step of their careers as physicians. We also thank the faculty and staff in the Office of Medical Education and all the residency program directors and coordinators who have made this year another success.

With pride and gratitude,

Respectfully,
