White Coat Ceremony

On Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, each member of the Class of 2028 donned a white coat in the annual rite of passage for first-year medical students. It was the final step of the Transition to Medical School, the two-week orientation that prepares students to begin classes and embark on their journeys to becoming doctors.

Welcoming our new future doctors: A message from the dean

One of the greatest honors at an academic medical center is working and learning alongside the bright new talents that represent the future of health care. Each year brings a new round of milestones, transitions and celebrations, and as July comes to a close, I’m thrilled to welcome our Class of 2028 to the MCV Campus.

On Monday, July 22, 188 new M1s arrived at MMEC to begin their medical school journeys. Many in this remarkable, diverse class have already worked in health care as scribes, EMTs, medical assistants and nurses, and I look forward to watching their passion for medicine flourish during their time here.

To our new students, I encourage each of you to embrace these years of learning and training with curiosity, openness and compassion for yourselves, for each other and for your future patients. And to the rest of the School of Medicine community, I thank you in advance for the crucial role you will play in shaping the next generation of physician-leaders.
