Dean of Medicine Art Saavedra, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., shares the story of a mission-driven colleague to illustrate how the VCU School of Medicine is dedicated to doing well while doing good.

On Friday, March 21, VCU's graduating M.D. students tore into their envelopes at a Hollywood-themed celebration to learn where they're heading this summer for residency training — marking an impressive 99% overall match rate.

Luan E. Lawson, M.D., has a vision for where medical education needs to go. As a national leader and the senior associate dean of medical education and student affairs in the VCU School of Medicine, her approach to medical education prepares students for a changing future.

A community of supporters who represent a culture of giving back at the School of Medicine and VCU Health are sharing time, treasure and talent to address pressing needs across the MCV Campus.

For her Patient, Physician and Society course, the Class of 2028's Vandanaa Jayaprakash chose to volunteer with Peter Paul RVA, a nonprofit whose mission is to support the residents of Richmond's East End and educate its children. She shares how this hands-on service helped her better understand her new home and the patients she will care for over the next four years.

Ellen M. Jenkins, M'85, recently moved to Richmond with her husband, James P. “Jim” Jenkins, M'84. In search of a way to keep her hands in the dirt, she got involved with Capital Trees, a nonprofit that maintains public green spaces around Richmond
