Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU to host lecture on AI in medicine
Held in the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building on Sept. 21., the talk will explore artificial intelligence in clinical decision making.
The Child Health Research Institute, the research arm of Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, will host a guest lecture on artificial intelligence in medicine on Thursday, Sept. 21 at noon.
Titled "AI and Clinical Decision Making,” the lecture will be presented by Tellen D. Bennett, M.D., who serves as section head of informatics and data science and professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is also the informatics core director for the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.
Bennett’s research focuses on the development of new technologies for clinical decision making. His investigations span a broad spectrum of topics within medicine, including AI’s application in the treatment of COVID-19, traumatic brain injury and surgery, as well as high risk fields like intensive care units.
Henry Rozycki, M.D., vice chair of research and professor in the Department of Pediatrics, encourages School of Medicine students, faculty and trainees to attend the lecture.
“We are now in a new era, using massive amounts of data and machine learning to deepen our understanding of health and disease,” Rozycki said. “Clinicians must understand the fundamentals, benefits and limitations of artificial intelligence.”
The lecture will be held in the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building auditorium and is open to the public.
