Dear colleagues,

Please see VCU President Dr. Michael Rao’s social media posts (Twitter and LinkedIn) regarding the two latest mass shootings in our country..

We too condemn these horrific acts of racially motivated violence. We call on each of us to reflect and do what can – both individually and collectively – to address systemic injustices and disparities across our clinical, education and research missions. We reaffirm our core values of human dignity and of mutual, unconditional respect, and we acknowledge our responsibility to condemn racism and all forms of discrimination.

We take this opportunity also to offer the support and resources available to our community:

  • University Counseling Services – Students may access 1-1 counseling sessions. Appointments can be made here.
  • VCU Employee Assistance Program (VCU faculty and staff)
  • Diversity, Inclusion, Restoration, Equity (D.I.R.E.) Conversations (faculty, staff and learners) – An opportunity to creatively engage in meaningful and informed dialogue, in a safe space, about the pressing issues of the day. Next session will be held Wednesday, May 25, noon–1 p.m. via Zoom.

Respectfully,

David P. Chelmow, M.D. - Interim Dean, VCU School of Medicine; Interim Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, VCU Health
