Dear colleagues,
The recent 2023 VCU Investiture celebrated more good news for the School of Medicine and its mission. Of the 77 faculty across the university who were formally invested, 50 were faculty from the School of Medicine – 50!
Privately endowed professorships and chairs are crucial to building a faculty roster of exceptional scholars, researchers and clinicians. This growing number of professorship and chair endowments enables the School of Medicine to continue to recruit and retain the talented individuals who are building a tradition of excellence shared by the nation’s top institutions.
We’ve seen increasing interest in faculty support with more than three dozen endowed funds created in the last decade. Currently there are 170 endowed professorships and chairs supporting the important work at SOM, Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and VCU Health.
These philanthropic investments are proof that the work we do has made – and continues to make – an impact on the world.
The School of Medicine continues to move in the right direction, and we are indebted to the generous alumni, faculty and grateful patients who support its research, patient care and training. You can learn more about the 2023 Investiture by reading our article, "Endowed professorships and chairs have far-reaching impact."
To all of our donors -- and to the physicians, researchers and teachers who make SOM a hub for discovery, innovation and hope in medicine -- thank you!
With gratitude,
Arturo P. Saavedra, M.D., Ph.D.
Dean, VCU School of Medicine
Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, VCU Health System
