Internationally renowned specialist to headline annual symposium on brain injury rehabilitation
Traumatic brain injury rehabilitation specialist Flora Hammond, M.D., will be the featured speaker at the Sheltering Arms Institute on Oct. 6.
The Sheltering Arms Institute (SAI), a physical rehabilitation center created in collaboration with VCU Health, will host the 7th Annual John and Rose Cifu Brain Injury Lecture and 2nd Annual Sheltering Arms Institute Research Symposium on Friday, Oct. 6.
At 3 p.m., featured speaker Flora Hammond, M.D. will give the keynote lecture. Hammond serves as chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Indiana University School of Medicine, project director of the Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Model System and chair of the TBI Model Systems Program Executive Committee. The lectureship was founded in 2017 by the School of Medicine’s David Cifu, M.D., and his brothers to honor their parents legacy.
From noon to 6 p.m., VCU faculty, students and SAI staff will present on a range of topics surrounding brain injury rehabilitation, including technologies and therapies to address the 1.5 million new TBIs documented in the U.S. every year. The event will also feature platform presentations from noon to 1 p.m.
