Dear Colleagues-Friends,

Dr. Geoffrey YoungWe are delighted to share that our colleague, Dr. Geoffrey Young, who serves as the senior director for student affairs and programs at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), will present the School of Medicine’s inaugural lecture on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from noon – 1 p.m. All are welcome and may join using the following webinar link: https://vcuhealth.zoom.us/j/95002917326.

During his talk, Dr. Young will discuss the current context for DEI work, provide a national perspective on DEI in medical schools and highlight the AAMC’s role and his personal connection to these important efforts.

Dr. Young is a clinical psychologist by training who has spent his career working in medical school admissions, student affairs and multicultural affairs at several schools prior to serving for the past nine years in his current national role at the AAMC. Dr. Young actually worked with me at the Medical College of Georgia and spent three years here at VCU as the associate dean of student affairs for the MCV Campus.

Please join us next Wednesday to hear our wonderful colleague who will provide both information and inspiration. The session also will be recorded and posted on the SOM’s new DEI website, which if you haven’t seen it already, please take a few minutes to check it out: https://medschool.vcu.edu/about/dei.

Additionally, the VCU School of Dentistry's Inaugural Inclusive Excellence Week will take place Monday, Oct. 19 – Friday, Oct. 23. Information and registration information can be found here. Our own Dr. Steven Crossman will speak about improving care for our LGBTIQ+ community.

We hope you will join us for these important sessions.

With all good wishes,
