Celebrating Our Top Docs
Before we close out our first full work week back from winter break, I wanted to take a moment to offer congratulations to the 156 providers named in the inaugural “Virginia’s Top Doctors” issue published this month by Virginia Business magazine.

It’s always nice to be recognized for what we do. These latest well-deserved accolades from a respected publication only underscore my steadfast belief that we work in a special place, with incredibly talented people delivering compassionate care, cutting edge research, inspired teaching and hope to the community we serve.
It’s worth noting that this list was developed through outreach to more than 10,000 medical professionals who were asked to identify the peers they believe were the best in their fields across 60 specialties. In total, 6,366 doctors were nominated from across the commonwealth and 1,163 made the final list. But what gratifies me even more is knowing that our excellence extends beyond this list.
What makes our school and our health system special is the dedication, time and talent every single one of us bring to our SOM mission. Every day, something important and impactful and life-changing takes place, thanks to all of you. It’s real and you should believe it. More and more people are beginning to understand what we already know -- this issue of Virginia Business gives readers a glimpse of the great people we have and the great things we do. Thank you for making us proud.
