On Friday, March 21, our graduating medical students learned where they’re heading this summer to begin residency training in their chosen specialties.

Lights, camera, match!

With an overall match rate of 99%, VCU’s graduating M.D. students tore into their envelopes at a Hollywood-themed celebration.

Prior to the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP), 95.4% of VCU School of Medicine’s graduating students matched into a PGY-1 position, higher than the national average of 94.3%. After SOAP, and including early matches to ophthalmology, urology and military residency programs, the Class of 2025’s overall match rate is 99%.

More than a quarter of the graduating class will remain in Virginia for their training, with 32 of those students matching into VCU Health residency programs.
