Graduate Students
Students in the graduate phase devote themselves to advanced research training, working closely with faculty mentors to develop and execute original scientific investigations. Through coursework, scholarly activities, and dissertation research, they build the expertise and independence needed to contribute new knowledge to their field while preparing for careers as physician-scientists.
While Ph.D. course requirements differ by selected program of study, students during this phase of the program complete both oral and written qualifying exams, F30 submissions, and laboratory work directed toward manuscript submission and subsequent successful completion of the Ph.D. Students in the graduate phase keep clinical skills fresh through a 2-year longitudinal ambulatory clerkship and through up to 8 weeks of additional clerkship experience before the start of the G1 year.
